Hi and welcome back to Week 4 of home learning! I cannot believe we are already on the fourth week of all of this. I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and have managed to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful weather. This week we are looking at the story of Pirates Love Underpants and in maths we are looking at different measuring – weight and capacity.

English

Day 1

Our story for this week is ‘Pirates Love Underpants’. It’s a great story that is quite funny , so I hope you all enjoy it.

Here is a link to listen to the story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vd8_Y1bEzA8

Your English activity for the day is to complete this…

Piratesloveunderpantsday1

It asks you to write what the story is about and to draw your favourite part.

Maths

This week in maths we are going to be looking at more measuring. Can you remember what type of measuring you did at home before the Easter holidays?

We looked at length which is looking at how long or short something is.

Today we are going to be looking at weight. We have done this in class. Can you remember what weight measures? How heavy or light something is.

White Rose Maths have produced some home learning materials linked to measuring so we are going to use some of their activities and then some nice practical activities too. White Rose Maths is really good for developing problem solving and thinking skills and we use their resources in class.

I have skipped lesson one as we have covered this a lot in class and I think lesson 2 is a better place to start. You can have a go if your child struggles with lesson 2.

Then complete this activity:

Maths problem of the day

Have a go at this extra problem if you would like. Ask the children how do you know that? How did you work out that answer?

Phonics

This week we are going to look at some phase 5 sounds via Mr T on YouTube. I thought a change of pace with phonics may help children to keep engaged. I am going to select different sounds that the children have been finding trickier in class to recap.

Please look at this video for today’s phonics revision on ew.

Pause the video on the words to have a go at sounding them out and blending them.

The video features another giraffe called Geraldine so I thought the class may like them.

If you do manage to find any object with the ew sound in have a go at segmenting the word to spell it using your robot arms e.g. g-l-ue and write it down.

then have a go at this:

phonics day 1

Just write the words to match the pictures if you like.

Don’t forget to play some games on phonicsplay.com selecting the sound we have looked at today using

Well-being activity for the day

Have a go at this Zootropolis activity. There are some ideas for what to do and then I have attached a link for the music video. Zootropolis is one of Mr Quinn’s favourite Disney films so I hope you enjoy the activity.
