As part of our Science topic on Forces we have been looking at water resistance.

Our task was to use a 40g piece of playdough to make a submarine shape that would drop to the bottom of our container the fastest. We took some time to explore possible ideas. Once we had settled on a shape we tested them. We adapted our shape to make it sink faster. We discussed the need for it to be streamlined to cut down the resistance from the water. We also thought about how we could improve the investigation to make sure it was a fair test. We then identified other objects both natural and man-made which move efficiently in water because of their streamlined shape.

It was messy but great fun!
