Over the last two weeks we have been busy in our science lessons learning how periscopes work and how to make one. To make a periscope we needed two 1 litre cartons, two small mirrors, a ruler, a pen and scissors. First we cut the top off the cartons then we made a 5cm square hole in one side of the carton towards the bottom. Next we measured a 45 degree angle from the bottom of the carton up the side to the back, this was to be the slit for the mirror. Then we put the mirrors in before attaching the two cartons up side down to each other. Our periscopes were now ready to use! We enjoyed using our periscopes – they will be coming home soon so you can see how well they work!
