Our Science Cross Phase Day is well underway and the excitement is rising! In the Acorn classroom we have been making Hoop Gliders from straws and card/paper.

Lots of scientific questions have been heard, for example, does the placement of the hoops on the straw affect its flight distance? Do more hoops help the hoop glider to fly better? Do the hoops have to be lined up for the plane to fly well? Does the length of the straw affect the flight? etc.

We have discussed the forces involved and have considered ‘drag’ air resistance. Which hoop glider will travel the furthest? How far will it travel? We are learning a lot today, whilst have so much fun too!
