Good morning Oak Class; happy July!

We’ve had lots of questions and queries from you and your parents about Google Classroom and Mrs Poole has put together a sheet of hints and tips for you. Thank you Mrs Poole!! Here it is:

Google Classroom Hints and Tips

English

Google Classroom Lesson – 9.30-10.30.

LI – to design a magazine article.

Discover what ‘The Space Race’ was, by reading and watching these sources – making notes as you read.

Read: DK Find Out – The Space Race: https://www.dkfindout.c om/uk/space/space-race/

Read: Pages 4, 5 and 6 of ‘Balloon to the Moon’ by Gill Arbuthnott: https://www.lovereading 4kids.co.uk/book/16228/ Balloon-to-the-Moon-by- Gill-Arbuthnott.html (You will need to become a member of LoveReading4Kids. Membership is free).

Watch: YouTube TedEd – ‘Who won the space race?’ – Jeff Steers: https://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=FxpC-8f–xo

Imagine you have been asked to create a page for ‘Science+Nature’ magazine – about the Space Race using the notes you have made in your Home Learning Book.

When designing your magazine page, you may wish to consider including these features:

  • an exciting title
  • fun-fact / ‘Did you know?’ boxes
  • subtitles for your different sections
  • Be creative with your layout – use different fact boxes and images to make your page exciting to the
  • You may also want to include additional features, such as a quiz or word

Remember to keep reading over your work to check for spelling and punctuation.

Maths

For maths, we are continuing to focus on reading, writing and ordering numbers across zero. Today we are going to be working in Target Your Maths and I have attached two pages.

P4 – LI – to compare and order numbers.

P5 – LI – to identify the place value of each digit in a number.

As always with TYM, look at the work and do some self assessment about your knowledge and understanding and then decide whether to work on Section A, B or C. Remember, you can always begin on one section and then move onto another if you feel ready. I’d like the majority of you to do both pages 4 and 5 (unless page 4 takes you a long time; 30-40 minutes focused work should be about right). Look carefully at the examples at the top of each page first and then begin working, recording yor work in your Home Learning Book.

Stilling Time

Last week Riddho said he wanted to do some mindful colouring so that’s what we will focus on for today’s Stilling Time. I’d like you to select and print off one of the inspirational quotes colouring sheets (if you can’t print, have a look at them and design one of your own in your Home Learning Book). While you colour listen to the uplifting words of this beautiful hymn:

PE

Please do Mr Garvey’s PE challenge for today.

Topic – Transition

I’ve set you a 2Do transition activity on Purple Mash based on equipment: having everything you need; organising your equipment, etc. Make sure you answer read the information about Rebecca’s experiences and then complete the ‘Getting Prepared’ frame by using the prompts and filling in the boxes. You’ve got until Friday to complete this work.

Well done for a great days work today. See you all tomorrow superstars!
