Hi everyone. I hope you had a good day yesterday. Here is the work for today…
Use the Pdf to support the learning.
What sounds can you hear, listen carefully… play animal sounds while they have their eyes closed. Ask them to open them again. What did you hear? Who makes that sound?
When children have finished giving suggestions, model changing their ideas into sentences. E.g., I can see… I can hear…
Children to write some sentences to describe what they can see/hear in the jungle, e.g., I can see a hippo, I can hear a lion.
Maybe you could add describing words to your sentences to make them even better e.g., I can see a lazy hippo, I can hear a ferocious lion.
Today we are looking at making equal groups by grouping. Use this link to learn more:
Chose one of the activities you think will be best for your child:
There is this activity:
or this one:
Or you could have a go at this grouping activity on Top Marks:
Select option without remainders
Have a go at these challenges if you would like something extra:
Don’t forget to have a go at explaining how you know.
Warm up with https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/flashcards-speed-trials select phase 5.
Today we are continuing with alternative ai: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/alt-spellings-ai
Choose Word Sort. Recap all the graphemes (written sounds) along the top of the screen and remind children that they discovered yesterday that they can all represent the same phoneme. Click the red button to reveal a word card. Ask a child to sound talk the word. Ask all children to decide which column this word belongs in. Drag the word to the column most children choose. Continue with the rest of the words.
Encourage the child to watch carefully where words end up on the chart and to look for patterns.
Can they identify the best bet (which is the most commonly used grapheme for the /ai/ phoneme)? Can they find any other rules (e.g. graphemes that only occur at the start/end of words or before certain letters)?
Go to Best Bet. Ask the children to discuss in pairs which graphemes are hidden behind the yellow boxes. Ask them to write them on whiteboards. Click on the yellow boxes to reveal the best guesses.
If your child is finding all the alternative sound work too difficult they can play the flashcard game then have a go at these games instead:
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/dragons-den select phase 3 or 5 and then revise all of that phase.
They could always have a go at https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/sentences-5a on option Tuesday
This is absolutely fine to do as it is very tricky when you get into all the alternative sounds.
Wellbeing activity of the day
Have a look at the wellbeing activity set by Mrs O’Donnell on her blog for today.
Extra Activities – if you would like
We are going to look at some of the animals that live in jungles and rainforests across the world for the rest of the week.
Today we are looking at Gorillas. Gorilla’s live in Africa:
Watch this to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieS2DsrDh18
You could get crafty and make a gorilla.
Or you could make a poster about a gorilla or create a fact file. For the fat file, can you find out:
What do the look like?
What do they eat?
Where do they live?
An interesting fact.
Use this to help if you need it: https://www.coolkidfacts.com/gorilla-facts/
Have a great day and email any pictures you would like me to see of work today! Mrs Quinn xx
