Hi Beech Class I hope you are all OK. Here is the work for today:
English
Today you are going to write some information about a pet. Pick one of these pets to write about and then watch the video for your chosen pet.
Interesting facts about cats: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPf0X0QclXE
Dogs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZplybWvLOg
Rabbits : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e1mXp8BNEY
Guinea pigs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icEiRGp9cdQ
Or find your own video for a different pet if you prefer.
Or look at this:
Choose an animal to write about.
Listen carefully to the information said and make notes (words) if you think it will help you to remember the facts.
Once the information has been gathered, ask your child to write an information poster on their chosen animal. They could include drawings or diagrams. (recap the work we have already done on non-chronological reports from the week before half term).
Use this format as a suggested structure:
Encourage the independent use of phonics for spelling and the word ‘and’ to join phrases and parts of a sentence.
Chose the correct level of work for your child. A couple of sentences will be absolutely fine if that is what is best.
They could include a ‘Did you know?’ fact box as a challenge. This could take the form of a question, e.g. Did you know that baby cats are called kittens?
Check full stops, capital letters and question marks for the ‘Did you know?’ fact box.
Maths
Use this to recap 3D shapes and their properties. Can you remember any of the shapes you found yesterday that were the same as the shape you are looking at?
3D shapes introduction – day 4
Use popsticks, toothpicks, straws, matchsticks, Knex sticks or anything you have that you think is appropriate to make these 3D shapes.
If you have some playdough or blu tack, you can use it to stick your corners together. How many faces, edges and vertices can you see on each shape?
Can you make any other 3D shapes you have learned about?
Or if you can’t do this have a go at this instead;
Shape School Game Activity Sheet
There are 3 levels so pick the one that is best for your child. Play on the screen if you cannot print.
It also says you need a 3D dice (last page). Just use a normal nice and label the 3D shapes with a number e.g. cube 1, cuboid 2, cone 3 etc.
Challenge
Have a go at this 3D shape mission:

Or Have a go at these challenges if you would like something extra:
Don’t forget to have a go at explaining how you know.
Phonics
Today we are looking at alternative c.

Have a look at the wellbeing activity set by Mrs O’Donnell on her blog for today.
Extra Activities – if you would like
Today’s pet is a horse.
You could get crafty:
Use construction:
Complete a pet profile on a horse:
You could always do it for your favourite pet if you would prefer?
Or find out information on horse. What different breeds can you find?
Have a great day and please email me any work you want. I would love to see it, Mrs Quinn xx
