Now for today’s work…

English

Thursday

LI – to write a biography or a comic strip.

Discover who Katherine Johnson was and her amazing life by reading these sources – making sure you jot down notes in your Home Learning Book as you read:

The Extraordinary Life of Katherine Johnson by Devika Jina: https://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/book/16358/ The-Extraordinary-Life- of-Katherine-Johnson-by- Devika-Jina.html

(You will need to become a member of LoveReading4Kids. Membership is free).

Fantastically Great Women who Worked Wonders by Kate Pankhurst (Page 1): https://www.lovereading 4kids.co.uk/book/16600/ Fantastically-Great- Women-Who-Worked- Wonders-Gift-Edition-by- Kate-Pankhurst.html

(You will need to become a member of LoveReading4Kids. Membership is free).

NASA website: Who was Katherine Johnson? https://www.nasa.gov/a udience/forstudents/k- 4/stories/nasa- knows/who-was- katherine-johnson-k4

Based on what you have read, select one of the following two outcomes:

  • BiographyWrite a short biography about Katherine’s life. Remember to write your biography in chronological order (from Katherine’s birth up until her death), selecting the key dates and facts about her life.

Or

Comic stripDesign and create a comic strip about Katherine’s life. Make sure you plan out the story for your comic first – thinking about how many sections you want to split the story into, what captions you’ll have to add to the comic and the pictures you will draw.

Please remember to share your work with me (we need at least one piece of English, Maths and something else per week).

Maths

For maths today, we are working from the SATs Buster Stretch book so hopefully this work should challenge us and get us thinking.

LI – to order and round numbers.

If possible, please print out the sheets and work directly onto them (if you can’t print, work in your Home Learning Book). Please make sure you show your working out, espeacially for the questions that ask you to do this or to explain your answer.

If you want/need any extra maths, choose an area you need to work on using Mathletics.

Stilling Time

Please access and complete Mrs O’Donnell’s Stilling Time activiy for today and enjoy your time with her.

Topic

Paper craft – making a flextangle.

I thought you’d really enjoy this activity; it’s fiddly and fun and produces a really cool fidget toy when you’ve finished.

Look really carefully at the instructions for how to make the flextangle and then make a start on yours. I’ve chosen a space themed one to link with our English!
