Hi Beech Class. I hope you are all well and are making the most of the lovely weather we have been having. Here is the learning for today…

English

Today we are going to recap the work we did on Acrostic Poems when we were looking at the rainbow fish. Today we are going to write a jungle themed Acrostic Poem.

Use this to support today’s learning:

english day 4

Then select the one poem you would like to complete. Orally rehearse your ideas with an adult first.

Maths

Today we are continuing with money and making the right amount with coins. Recap the coins you looked at yesterday and name them all and their values. Use real coins if you have them or look at this:

Then look at this game:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/toy-shop-money

Select options, mixed coins then up to 20p to start. You can move to £1 if your child is ready.

I always remind them that if we need to make 8p for example we don’t have an 8p coin so need to use other coins to make the 8p.

Chose one of the three sheets (sheet 3 maybe challenging) and draw the correct amounts to put in the jars:

Challenge

Have a go at these challenges if you would like something extra:

Don’t forget to have a go at explaining how you know.

Phonics

Start by recapping tricky words:

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/tricky-word-trucks

Select option phase 5

Then use this link:

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/alt-spellings-ee

Choose Word Sort. Recap all the graphemes along the top of the screen and remind
children that they discovered yesterday that they can all represent the same phoneme.
Click the red button to reveal a word card. Ask a child to sound talk the word. Ask all children
to decide which column this word belongs in. Drag the word to the column most children
choose.

Continue with the rest of the words. Keep moving at a quick pace. Encourage the child to watch
carefully where words end up on the chart and to look for patterns. Can they identify the best
bet (which is the most commonly used grapheme for the /ee/ phoneme)? Can they find any
other rules (e.g. graphemes that only occur at the start/end of words or before certain letters)?
Go to Best Bet. Ask the children to discuss in pairs which graphemes are hidden behind the
yellow boxes. Ask them to write them on whiteboards. Click on the yellow boxes to reveal the
best guesses.

Wellbeing activity of the day

Have a look at the wellbeing activity set by Mrs O’Donnell on her blog for today.

Extra Activities – if you would like

Today we are looking at animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest. Have a look at where it is on this map:

The Amazon rainforest in South America is the largest rainforest habitat in the world. The Amazon rainforest reaches over many countries, but most of it is in Brazil. There are lots of different plants and animals that live in the Amazon. Have a look at this to learn more:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgK1WdYq_aw

Select one of the animals from the video. You could get crafty and make the animal, you could make a poster of that animal of a fact file. For the fat file, can you find out:

What do the look like?

What do they eat?

Where do they live?

An interesting fact.

I Hope you all have a great day and please send any work you would like me to see! Mrs Quinn xx
