11+ Practise
Also, just a reminder that you can find lots of suggested websites for you to use at home our Websites page. This includes a link to the FREE 11+ Familiarisation Tests from GL Assessment, that I mentioned last week.
If you were doing the Grammar School practise papers with Mrs Glover before we broke up these are a good resource for you to use at home instead. They have provided 6 free tests, so you could use one each week.
You will find the websites page on the the home page under the Classes tab. The 11+ materials are at the very bottom of the page.
This Friday is a celebration – the 75th Anniversary of V.E. Day.
To mark this as a school, every class will be posting daily activities to get you in the spirit. You can choose when and how many of them you want to do.
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the day towards the end of World War Two when fighting against Nazi Germany came to an end in Europe.
On 8 May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill,made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany’s surrender the day before.
Many people were extremely happy that the fighting had stopped and there were big celebrations and street parties.
Huge crowds – with lots of people dressed in red, white and blue – gathered outside Buckingham Palace in London. They cheered as King George VI and his family, including Princess Elizabeth (the current queen) and Princess Margaret, came out onto the balcony to greet everybody.
Princess Elizabeth and her sister were allowed to leave the palace and celebrate with crowds outside, although they had to do it secretly.
The future Queen described it as “one of the most memorable nights of my life”.
Activity 1
Our first activity is one that the whole school is taking part in – to make bunting. This is an activity you can work on all week, whenever you have time.

This week we will be focussing on converting measures.

We haven’t covered this yet so make sure you watch the video carefully.
Remember, the teacher will go through how to work out the answers.
We have used number lines a lot this year, as they are a great way to see how to work out an answer. They are used in this lesson as well.
There is a quick quiz at the beginning and the end of the lesson, so give them a go.

You should be able to have a good try everything in the lesson above. I have also set some time tasks on Mathletics for you to do if you would like a follow up task.

I have set everyone some tasks related to time on Mathletics so have a go at these if you find the activity from the above lesson too challenging.

I would like everyone to watch the video. You can pause and watch it again as many times as you need to help you with the activity. There is lots of guidance on here to show you how to answer so have a go!
You might spot that one of the texts is set in South America, so it might remind you of the amazing work you did for our Amazon Adventure topic!
Again, there are spellings at the end. Have a go at these, as they are a good revision for Kappa and Omega and a good introduction for Pi and individual spellers.

In the story of Ruth and Naomi, Ruth was faithful. She trusted in God. She stayed with Naomi and looked after her, she said:
“Where you go I go.”
Think about faithfulness. Discuss the answers to these questions with a grown-up and then record them in your Home Learning book:
Who is faithful to you? Who sticks by you no matter what?
Who are you faithful to?
What does it fell like knowing that someone is faithful to you?
What does being faithful involve?
Write a message to someone who is faithful to you. If they are not living with you at the moment, you could ask a grown-up to take a photo of your message and send it to them. Tell them why their faithfulness is important to you.
