Hi Beech Class. I hope you have all had a great weekend.

From this week, we are asking parents to send one piece of work a week, preferably English,  to their child’s class teacher, so we can see how they are getting on. You can email me any pictures of work to h.quinn@ellel-st-johns.lancs.sch.uk. Feel free to send more if you are doing so already or wish to. I will then post work sent on our Friday blog post which looks at all the amazing work we have done in the week.

We have also enabled an upload feature to our blog posts, so you can upload images there that we can then approve as staff. As we don’t want to overload the website, storage space is limited, any attachments are restricted to 1mgb. I know you are all very busy and juggling lots of different things but it would be great to see a piece of work from you. If you are having any issues or difficulties with this please email me and I will be happy to help.

If you are struggling with the English work set, you can always have a look at this blog post for different English activities as an alternative to the ones set daily on the blog. I have updated it with new activities too.

Feel free to dip in and out of the daily activities and these ones set above. I am happy for you to do whatever is best for your child.

Mrs Quinn

English

This week in English we will be looking at the story of The Highway Rat. Do you know the name of the author who write the book? It is a person we have looked at in class?

The author is Julia Donaldson. Can you think of any other books she has written?

Have a look at some of them here:

https://www.google.com/search?q=julia+donaldson+books&rlz=1C1GCEA_enGB797GB798&oq=julia+don&aqs=chrome.2.0j46j0j69i57j0l3j69i61.4216j0j9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Which books of these have you read? Can you remember the work we did on the Gruffalo in class?

Watch and enjoy The Highway Rat being read aloud:

Ay you are watching, take note of where the story is set, what character are in the storyand what happens in the beginning, middle and end.

For today’s activity you can chose one of two activities.

Either:

  • act out the story in order at home – maybe you could get other people to help you and be different characters
  • or complete this story map looking at story settings, character and what happens in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
