Hello everyone and welcome to Wednesdays home learning.

In maths today I would like you to use your knowledge of addition and subtraction to estimate the answers to questions.

What does estimating mean?

Estimating means taking a sensible guess at an answer.

So if I said, estimate the answer to 438+230, I know that 400+200 is 600 so I know that my guess would be bigger than 600.

Estimating means taking a guess, not working out the full answer. We do this so that when we really work out the answer we will already have a good idea of what our answers should look like. You will also use this skill in everyday life, estimating the prices of things before you buy them, estimating how long journeys will take or estimating the time of the day.

Number Square

Using digits from the number square create 2, 3 digit numbers e.g. 234+567, then estimate the answers.  Once you have your estimated answer, work out the real answer to see if you were close.

Tomorrow we will be using our estimating skills along side our measuring skills, so tomorrow you will need a ruler. Do not worry if you do not have a ruler I have found a website with a virtual ruler you can use.

Try this for 5 addition problems and 5 subtraction problems. Remember when subtracting you take away from the bigger number.

Click here to read the book – The Twits – By Roald Dahl

For English today I would like you to re-read the chapter about Mrs Twit.

Highlight all the information you read about Mrs Twit.

Now create a fact file, poster or Top Trumps card about Mrs Twit using the information you have read.

Check spelling and punctuation in each sentence together.

Spellings – I have added new spellings to SpellingShed, so make sure you you log on and learn those new spellings.

Times Tables – I would like everyone to recap their tables. How many can you write for each times table in a 3 minute time period.

RE- Which Rules to follow and which to challenge!

Before Easter we were looking at rules and which ones we agreed with and which ones we did not. Have a look at these rules below and think about if you agree or disagree with them.

Not eating pork. Leviticus 11:7
Not cutting the hair on the side of your face or beard. Leviticus 19:27
Planting more than one seed in a field. Leviticus 19:19
Wearing clothing woven of more than one kind of cloth. Leviticus 19:19

Many Jewish people still follow all these laws today. Christians believe that Jesus came to give freedom from all these laws.

In your exercise book answer the following questions.

How do you decide which laws to keep?

Think about the ways in which rules affect the relationships between people.

What happened when people disagreed about which laws to keep?

How is it decided which rules must be kept?

Stilling time today will be a cosmic kids zen den listening game.

Mr Turton’s joke of the day.

An elderly couple are in the cinema. The wife leans over and whispers to her husband, “I just let out a long, silent trump. What should I do?”

The husband replies, “First off, replace the batteries in your hearing aid!”

Have a great day everyone. Keep smiling.
