English

Join us at 11am today as we discuss today’s English learning.

Today I would like you to re-watch the story. I would like you to write down any words that you don’t know the meaning of or words that are unfamiliar.

The Ink Garden of Brother Theophane

Here are some words that you may have written down.

Brother

Parchment

Quill

Solemnly

Cauldron

Bedraggled

What feature do some explanation texts / instructions have to help with unfamiliar words? A glossary.

Today we are going to create a glossary. Using a dictionary I would like you to find out the meaning of each of the words in our unfamiliar word list.

I would then like you to write down each word and the definition.

For an extra challenge can you write your glossy in alphabetical order.

Science

Our topic for the next 5 weeks is all about rocks! (Don’t worry, it’s more exciting than it sounds – honest!)

With a grown up, or a sibling, have a think about the questions below. If you don’t know any of the answers for certain, you needn’t worry as all will be revealed.

Have a think:

What are rocks?

What do you already know about rocks?

Where do you find rocks?

Are rocks alive? How do you know?

Why are there rocks everywhere?

Watch the video below, and it will explain the different types of rocks and how they’re formed.

We also have human made rocks, these are rocks that have been made by humans. For example, a marble mantle piece, a gravestone and a brick.

Activities

What I’d like you to do is to sort these rocks out into two categories, natural rocks and human made rocks.

If you choose the spicy sheet, you need to say what the type of rock can be used for. For example, slate – could be used for a path. Granite – could be used for a pillar in an old building. You can use books or the internet to help!

Choose either:

Have a great day everyone and keep smiling.
