Happy Chinese New Year Acorn Class!

(or as the Chinese say (Xīnnián kuàilè xiàng zi kè!)(I hope!)

This week we are celebrating Chinese New Year and the year of the Ox. It officially starts on February 12th and we usually celebrate this in school every year and it’s great fun, especially the dragon dancing in our P.E. lesson.

If you’re sat there thinking, what on earth is he going on about, here’s a little video to explain the story.

Now usually in P.E. we have a Dragon box which we place over a child’s head and then the rest of the children form the body and tail covered by a sheet. Obviously you don’t have a dragon/lion box head at home (Or do you?). But we could always adapt this and see if you can dance and move like a dragon/lion?

Here’s a video of the Lion dance

I have found loads of activities for Chinese New Year so will post some links on here. Feel free to look at them and see if there is anything you like. Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer or if you don’t have any chopsticks. Get creative and see if you can adapt.

The following PDF files are downloads. So if you highlight each link a box should appear. Click the box link to download! (Hope this helps!)

See how you get on and if you enjoy it, why don’t you reward yourself with a Chinese takeaway at the end of the week?

Have fun!
