Hello everybody, I hope you are all doing o.k.!
Wednesday is one of our favourite afternoons in Acorn Class because it is P.E. I don’t mean to brag but we always have a lot of fun!
This term we are looking at toys and in particular at a book called “Kipper’s Toy box”. In the story Kipper has an absolute nightmare of a day and loses one of his favourite toys ‘sock thing’ and goes on a huge search around his house looking for sock thing.
At the end of last term we had just started to practice throwing and catching a bean bag and even though we did this in the hall, i have thought of a way which was safe to do in your own house using a rolled up sock.
You will need:
1 sock (rolled up)
space in a room to sit and throw the rolled up sock
Thats it!
Simply sit on the floor and holding your rolled up sock practice throwing it in the air (Not too high!) and try and catch it with BOTH HANDS. After you have mastered that, have a try at catching with just ONE HAND. Then try with your OTHER HAND. Finally unroll the sock and try to throw it in the air and catch it on a part of your body. e.g. head, shoulder, knee etc
This activity is great practice for hand eye co-ordination and for developing your object control skills.
Here is a video of a guy showing you what to do just in case i have not explained it well enough. (Naturally i would have normally done the video but i haven’t been able to cross my legs like that for the last 20 years or so! Haha)
Have fun practicing and try and see if you can beat my record 0f 6 catches without dropping(Obviously not!). Get your mum and Dad to either film you or take photos, let me know what scores you managed to get as well and send them to me via e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you!
Have fun and i hope you are sock-cessful! (See what i did there!!)
